Final evaluation

Final – project evaluation

The concept of this personal investigation was to capture the nature of plants and flowers in both natural and artificial habitats as well as mixing portraiture and surrealism within the topic, the ideas within this topic ranged from simple edits to surreal experimental edits that show case plants flowers and trees within nature, I feel that all my images link to my personal investigation as I created a visual record of Botany which is the study of flowers, investigation will explored ' the life of a flower' as well as the different kinds of flowers within nature and the UK, i also recorded portraiture with a mix of surrealism within the topic as well. My aim throughout this topic was to explore the vast amount of possibilities you can achieve from creating images of flowers, this  ranged from simple well detailed images to surreal editing both computer and physical, with these ideas i created a range of images, all circling back to botanical origins. I aspired to use many different forms of editing to broaden the perspective on floral photography, this included kaleidoscope effects, portraiture, embroidery, drawing and double exposure.

My images from my shoots relate to the investigation, initial ideas and concepts, yet throughout the investigation my work developed beyond my original ideas. I feel that visually  my images showcase botanical ideas as well as nature and plants. My images I feel also give a new perspective to floral photography, my work links clearly to my artist research as shown in each of my shoots where my final images are all inspired by the artist influences.

I feel that shoots 4,5,6,7 and 9 worked well and were the most successful shoots in terms of both taking the images and editing and refining the final products, I feel that this is because I  worked hard to ensure that my images resulted in being successful in terms of editing in the form of my research influences.
My final portfolio was carefully selected, I aimed to use at least 2 images from each shoot in order to show the investigations progress from simple black and white images to double exposure edits, I chose to use images from each shoot and the specific order that they’re in to add a flow of images as well as progression.
My work is heavily influenced by my research which is shown within my connecting essays where each shoot is related to an artists work, may it be my key artists or new artists that have been researched throughout the topic.

Throughout the investigation I learnt many things, especially in terms of editing in which I self taught using YouTube tutorials and website instructions, as a consequence of this personal investigation I found out many things, this included the difficulty of capturing flowers and plants within a natural habitat due to many factors like wind, light and weather conditions, I also found that capturing the intricate details of flowers add emphasis to the beauty of flowers and their components.
